40 miles over 4 days, across 3 countries… an intrepid team of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust nurses, consultants, physios, chaplains, ODPs and external supporters are all pushing themselves physically and emotionally to their limits to raise much needed funds for patients and their families at our local hospitals.
Starting on Monday 12th September the team of Mont Blanc trekkers will start their arduous 40 mile route, crossing the borders of France, Italy and Switzerland while ascending nearly 1000m into the mountains (the equivalent of walking up the Eiffel Tower three times each day!) in only four days.
The money raised from the challenge will go towards making things better for staff, patients and their families at UHCW NHS Trust.
Heather Tysall, Consultant Nurse in Acute Medicine, is ready for the challenge:
“I’m proud to be a part of the UHCW Mont Blanc Trek Challenge as a way of showing my appreciation and thanks to the Charity team for providing an incredible amount of well-being support to the staff at UHCW and in particular those in my area of Acute Medicine during the unprecedented times of the COVID 19 pandemic.
From personal experience, 12 years ago following a car accident, I was admitted to the hospital via the Emergency Department Rhesus room and spent a subsequent 7 days in the trauma ward recovering. Being on both sides of the fence I understand the needs and the support that the Charity offers from both the clinical and the patient perspective. Thanks to the help from the staff at UHCW I am still able to push myself physically and this trek will certain do that!”
UHCW Charity partnered with local business Sky Blue Adventures to put on the event. The Meriden-based outdoor pursuits specialists will be helping to guide the team across the mountainous terrain.
Sky Blue Adventures owner Paul Reeve said: “As a small local company, Sky Blue Adventures are immensely proud to be working with UHCW Charity to bring the event to life. It is an honour to support hospital staff to undertake this fantastic 4 day world renowned challenge in the Alps”.
