Support our NHS Superheroes

Whilst our NHS Superheroes at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) are on the front line fighting the COVID-19 crisis, we are raising funds to support them.

Our 9000 amazing UHCW NHS Trust staff do an incredible job. Many are currently sick themselves or in isolation due to health conditions. Our remaining staff are working around the clock to take care of those you love, our patients and their families.

The money raised will fund Superhero Care Boxes, iPadsBlood Gas Analyser, Schwartz Rounds, Vcreate service and extra facilities to help UHCW deal with the increased demand on services, rise in patient numbers and decline in health and well-being of our NHS staff.

How we are Helping

Superhero Care Boxes

The Superhero Care Boxes include snacks, drinks and toiletries which help boost energy and morale of staff working extra-long shifts.

In addition to the boxes we are providing extra facilities for hospital staff treating Covid-19 patients. This includes additional lockers to cover for the increase in staff and a break area with comfy chairs so that staff can take a few minutes rest away from the front-line.

iPads

Covid-19 is having a huge impact on our hospitals including the vital implementation of visiting restrictions. We are fundraising to purchase 80 iPads for the Trust to connect critical care patients with their loved ones at this difficult time.

Patients and their loved ones will be able to use the iPads to video call, ensuring patients receive friendly and supportive contact whilst in ICU. An essential part of their recovery process.

Blood Gas Analyser

A blood gas analyser enables nurses and doctors to perform blood gas analysis for patients with respiratory illnesses amongst other conditions. Having an additional analyser will save a huge amount of critical time in the Emergency Department as previously staff have had to use an analyser from other wards.

Additional equipment will save critical time in life and death situations and greatly improve patient experience at the hospital.

Schwartz Rounds

Schwartz Rounds were first introduced in the UK in 2009 and are now established in many NHS organisations. They aim to provide a structured and facilitated forum for staff to share their experiences of stressful and emotional events when caring for patients, speaking with families and working with colleagues.

Evidence suggests they can increase empathy and compassion for patients and colleagues, lead to positive changes in practice, improve staff psychological well-being and reduce burn-out.

vCreate

The vCreate system is a secure video and photograph messaging service that allows clinical teams in neonatal and paediatric units to send visual updates to parents when they’re unable to be with their child.  It allows parents to access updates created by staff and helps to minimise separation anxiety. Regular video updates provide reassurance and are accessible on any device, 24 hours a day enabling siblings, grandparents and extended family to be more involved.

Staff on the unit are able to document moments that parents ordinarily may miss such as, being snuggled in or coming off a ventilator.

This service is needed now more than ever as visiting the hospital is restricted. We can only continue this service with support as it requires ongoing sponsorship.
